SITI IS ASIA’S NUMBER ONE BOWLER
Asia’s top bowler Siti wants another high at Storm Cup in S. Korea
PETALING JAYA: National bowler Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman hopes to add another feather to her cap before the year ends.
The 27yearold is in buoyant mood ahead of her last assignment – the Storm Cup in South Korea from Dec 1721 – after she was crowned the Asia’s No.1 bowler on Monday.
A series of fine individual performances saw Siti Safiyah topped the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) women’s division final ranking with 312 points.
Teammate Sin Li Jane, who earned 287 points made in a glorious 12 finish for Malaysia.
Siti Safiyah raked in most points particularly from her runnerup effort in the AllEvents at the World Championships in Las Vegas recently (120) and finishing third at the mixedgender field Emir Cup (60) in Doha, Qatar in March.
Siti Safiyah also impressed in the non ABFsanctioned events including her historic Wichita Open triumph on the US PWBA Tour in July and a secondplaced finish at the World Cup in Mexico, last month.
“I couldn’t be more happier to end the year by topping the Asian women’s ranking,” said Siti Safiyah, who is fondly known as Sofy.
“This is surely a great achievement and a massive honour.
“Becoming Asia’s No.1 means a lot to me.
“It shows that I have done well in most of the tournaments I participated.”
Siti Safiyah, who also helped Malaysia to reclaim the team gold at the world meet, is eager to continue her hot streak by finishing in the top three in Korea, a prestigious PBA Tour event which attracted a host of top American and European professionals.
“It would be great to finish the year with another podium finish,” she said.
Li Jane, Shalin Zulkifli, Rafiq Ismail and Timmy Tan are also in the fray.
