Dec 22 unity meet to reject US’ Jerusalem move

-

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians will be converging at the Putra Mosque here on Dec 22 in a show of unity rejecting the United States’ move to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the gathering would be attended by both Muslims and nonMuslims nongovernmental groups.

This show of solidarity, he said, indicated that Malaysia’s stand was supported by its people, regardless of their faith.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be present and will address the crowd. So will PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“I call on all Malaysians to join the gathering,” he told reporters after chairing the Cabinet committee meeting on foreign workers here yesterday.

Najib, who attended the Extraor dinary Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey, had called on the Muslim group to unite in this cause.

He also voiced Malaysia’s condemnation of the US’ unilateral decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had said his party supported the Government’s stand on Jerusalem as the issue was not just about religion but was disruptive to world peace.

On Dec 6, Trump announced that his country’s embassy would be relocating from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
