Distinguished octogenarian joins MCA to counter Opposition tactics.
JOHOR BARU: An active Chinese community leader has decided to join MCA, saying he is disappointed with the Opposition style of politics.
Dr Cheng Chean Chiang made the announcement at a dinner with local community leaders here on Saturday, which was also attended by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The retired businessman said the decision was made as he was fed up with the false allegations and lies that the Opposition was spreading.
I have travelled to over 60 countries across the globe and there is truly no place like Malaysia. I am so proud of what we are as a nation. Dr Cheng Chean Chiang
“I have travelled to over 60 countries across the globe and there is truly no place like Malaysia. I am so proud of what we are as a nation.
“I am tired of listening to others (Opposition) saying otherwise and only spreading lies to poison the people,” he said.
Dr Cheng, 82, has been active in Chinese associations as well as the Foon Yew primary and high school board of directors for the past 50 years.
Having “seen and been through it all”, he said MCA through Barisan Nasional has stood by the Chinese community and provided all the
assistance needed.
He commended Liow for his hard work, including efforts to ensure Malaysia reaps the benefits of China’s Belt and Road initiative as well as the continuous development of Chinese schools.
Dr Cheng also backed Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, describing him as a leader who has the best interests of the people at heart.
Meanwhile, Dr Wee said Cheng would be registered as a party member under its Johor Baru division.
“It is very rare for us to see a person of his age registering to become a party member.
“So far in Johor, I believe he is the oldest and we are very happy to welcome him,” the Johor MCA liaison committee chairman told reporters.
