Kit Siang as PM will create racial rift, says Liow

-

KLUANG: Racial ties among the people will be damaged if DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang becomes prime minister, says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The MCA president said Lim’s ambition would steer Malaysia towards the path of ruin.

“His ambition has always been to topple the Barisan Nasional Government and he is wellversed in political manipulation,” he said at a press conference after a gather ing with Paloh MCA division leaders and the Chinese community here yesterday.

Liow, who is also the Transport Minister, said Lim would go to great lengths to achieve that, besides making empty promises and “Uturns”.

He added that Lim and his party’s style of “hate politics” would create a rift among the races.

Responding to former Jawi assemblyman Tan Beng Huat’s departure from DAP due to the family dynasty and dictatorship in the party, Liow said only Lim would know if he indeed harboured aspirations to be prime minister or deputy prime minister.

“What we know is that we cannot trust him,” he said.

Liow also said that Lim had previously convinced the people to support PAS, but has now shifted his support towards former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“When PAS did not do as he said, he turned to use Tun Dr Mahathir.

“It shows that Lim is wellversed in using others for his personal political interests,” he added.

Speaking at the event, Liow said MCA fully backed Paloh assemblyman Teoh Yap Kun to be fielded as the candidate to defend the state seat in the next general election.

The party felt Teoh had done a good job in Paloh and had gained the support of voters, he added.

Teoh, a 64yearold retired civil servant, defeated his DAP opponent R. Shanker with a majority of 103 votes in the last general election.

Paloh and Kahang state seats make up the Sembrong parliamentary seat, which is held by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
