New bridge hosts run in honour of Sultan’s birthday

KLANG: Less than a month after its official opening, the Jambatan Raja Muda Nala became the latest venue for the annual Menjunjung Kasih Klang Third Bridge Run 2017, attracting 6,000 participan­ts.

The event, which began at 7am, was part of the celebratio­ns to mark the Sultan’s 72nd birthday on Dec 11 and was also aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering camaraderi­e among the people in Selangor.

The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddi­n Idris Shah joined the crowd in the 5km fun run yesterday.

The event, which was launched by Tengku Amir Shah, was divided into cycling and running categories, and included a 10km Men’s and Women’s Open run events.

There was also a 10km run for Veteran Women and Veteran Men categories, that is, those aged 40 and above.

At the close of the event, many participan­ts took the opportunit­y to take selfies with Tengku Amir Shah, who happily obliged them.

Also present were state Youth Generation Developmen­t, Sports, Cultural and Entreprene­urship Developmen­t exco Amirudin Shaari and Klang Municipal Council chairman Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin.

On Nov 19, Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddi­n Idris Shah named the bridge after the early 18thcentur­y warrior and then Raja Muda Selangor during the official opening of the bridge here.
