Homegrown fried chicken a hit for couple

PONTIAN: A couple’s secret recipe for fried chicken and bargain price of just RM1 a piece are an irresistible combination for customers, who come from far and near to their home at Taman Merdeka here.

Nur Raudhah Murad said she and her husband Mohd Nadzri Md Salleh, both 26, started the business about two months ago using her own original spice recipe.

“Our Ayam Goreng Spicy Ponti-Yumm! has become a big hit as diners can’t resist the special spicy taste of the chicken,” she said.

“Our customers are mostly from nearby areas such as Pekan Nanas, but some come from as far away as Johor Baru and Kulai.”

Nur Raudhah added that selling the fried chicken at just RM1 a piece is their way of helping those on a tight budget and cannot afford to eat out at expensive restaurants.

“My husband and I once hit rock bottom in our life, so we know what it feels like – the stress of having very little savings at the end of the month,” she said.

Nur Raudhah, a former broadcast journalist and event manager, said when she started promoting her business on Facebook (search: Hanna Nurin) and through WhatsApp groups, many people could not believe the price.

She said the main attraction of the fried chicken was the blend of spices which caters to the Malaysian palate.

“We get positive feedback from our customers. We have even received orders from customers in Melaka and Kuala Lumpur,” she said.

However, Nur Raudhah said for now, they would confine their business to Johor although they may consider expanding to other states.

“For delivery, we charge based on the distance from our house. The highest is RM5 per delivery,” she said, adding that they were looking forward to set up a stall soon.
