Day of rage over Trump’s decision
MANAMA: Appropriate steps that need to be taken in addressing the plight of the Palestinian people will be highlighted at a gathering to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS leaders in Putrajaya this Friday.
Najib, who is Umno president, said Umno and PAS must seek ways to jointly address the issue.
“There must be common ground when it comes to an issue of importance to Islam and the Muslim community,” he told the Malaysian media covering his official visit to Bahrain here on Saturday.
It was reported that Najib would join the rally together with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to condemn the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The Prime Minister said he would also highlight the outcome of the recent Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s extraordinary summit in Istanbul on the subject.
The decision by US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has sparked anger and condemnation from Muslim communities all over the world.
In PAsir Putih, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuk urged Malaysians from various races and religions to join Najib in the rally.
He said that the people should be united and cast aside their political differences to show solidarity with the Palestinians against the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“The issue of Palestine is a big thing because international laws have been violated, making it more difficult for the ongoing peace process to proceed,” Dr Asyraf Wajdi said.
The rally after the Friday prayers will involve Muslim and non-Muslim NGOs. — Bernama
