No gold but Ezuan frets not as he adapts to new jacket

-

SUBANG: Commonwealth Games-bound Mohd Ezuan Nasir Khan has no complaints despite not winning any golds at the Selangor Shooting Championships.

The 28-year-old gave the thumbs-up after using his brand new RM3,000 shooting jacket for the first time during the four-day championships that ended at the National Shooting Range yesterday.

And Ezuan believes the jacket will fit him snugly when he competes at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April.

Ezuan is one of the four Kuala Lumpur SEA Games shooting gold medallists confirmed for the Games in Australia. The others are Johnathan Wong Guanjie (10m air pistol), Benjamin Khor (double trap) and Alia Sazana Azahari (25m pistol).

“I discarded my old jacket after using it for 12 years. I received a new one after the SEA Games. Usually, it takes three to four months to get used to it. I didn’t feel comfortable at first but now I’m slowly getting used to it. It’ll take a little more time,” said Ezuan.

Despite using the jacket for the first time, the 2014 Asian Games silver medallist still managed to bag a silver in the 10m air rifle and a bronze in the 50m rifle prone.

“It’s only the second local tour-

nament this year that I didn’t win a gold but that’s fine. I was more focused on getting used to the jacket.”

Next year, Ezuan is eyeing a medal at the Commonwealth Games and doing well in the various World Cup legs to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, in-form veteran Nur Suryani Taibi bagged her third individual gold by winning the 10m air rifle with a 244 total yesterday. Earlier, Suryani was triumphant in the 50m rifle three positions on Thursday and 50m rifle prone on Saturday.
