Chance to learn about mental illness

-

WHETHER you realise it or not, mental illness is a serious issue and almost everyone is facing some form of mental problem. Everyone is fighting this battle.

Recently, the Interpersonal Communication students in UiTM Shah Alam organised an event called FIST17 (Fight Stigma 2017), which was all about fighting the stigma of mental illness.

It was a remarkable event and I enjoyed the content and information they shared about the seriousness of mental illnesses and what they could lead to.

For a person who is fighting depression, this kind of event is really helpful and helps me go through my days without having to feel bad about myself for being “different” from others.

Guests and professionals from the Mental Illness Awareness & Support Association were there to share their journeys with mental illness and how patients live with their condition. The information they shared was truly helpful.

There was also a listening session by Sidewalk Talk, where anyone who came to the event could talk about anything with volunteers from the crew.

This was a great experience as they allowed people to open up without passing judgement.

Kudos to the students who organised and conducted this event. May the stigma of mental illness be eradicated soon.
