PUTRAJAYA: Federal Territories mufti Datuk Dr Zulkifli al-Bakri expressed his appreciation to Malaysians of all faiths who came to the “Solidarity to Save Jerusalem” rally during a the Friday sermon at Masjid Putra.

He said it was important to defend Jerusalem because it was a sacred land where Prophet Muhammad had lived.

All efforts, he added, must be taken to restore the right of the Palestinians to a peaceful and just life.

“I wish to call on all Muslims to demonstrate our solidarity with the Palestinians in their struggle to liberate Jerusalem and Palestine from colonisation and oppression. Let’s all assemble after this (sermon) to voice our support and express the spirit of intifadah (uprising) for the Palestinians. To Allah we surren- der,” he said in his sermon.

Zulkifli also reminded all Muslims that even in their enthusiasm to express support for and solidarity with the Palestinians, they should abide by the rules in accordance with the concept of wasatiyyah (moderation).

“Hence, let’s set aside any distinction that stands in the way of unity among us. This is the time for us to work together, pray and help every oppressed Muslim wherever he or she may be,” he said.

Zulkifli also praised the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who has made his voice loud and clear in rejecting US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He added that other Malaysian leaders, NGOs and the non-Muslims have also given strong support to Malaysia’s role in the issue.
