JOHOR BARU: Less fortunate home owners in Johor are getting a helping hand from Pertubuhan Ihsan Johor volunteers to improve their living conditions by repairing, renovating and decorating their houses under the Deco Rangers programme.

Technical and executive project spokesman Muhammad Shahfudin Sudin said the organisation plans to carry the home improvement-related work at least once every month.

He said so far, the volunteers had repaired three houses in Kampung Pasir, Kampung Baru and Temengong flats in Senai in collaboration with the Kulai Municipal Council’s Yayasan Sejahtera.

“We have 50 volunteers for the programme and we hope more will come forward to offer their expertise in helping the less fortunate,” said Shahfudin.

He said the programme focused on the underprivileged who did not have the financial means to carry out repair works, with RM2,000 allocated to each selected home.

He said most of the repair and renovation work were done in the kitchen, to the ceiling and termiteinfested areas, and also to help those who could not carry out the task due to old age or illness.

The programme will be carried out in all districts, with local councils identifying recipients whose houses are in dire need of improvement, said Shahfudin.
