Moto2 rider Khairul setting up racing academy
PETALING JAYA: Khairul Idham Pawi may have his hands full competing in the Moto2 world championship but he’s not shying away from sharing his knowledge with aspiring riders.
The 19-year-old is setting up his own racing academy next year.
It will be known as the SuperKIP Racing Academy and based in his hometown in Kampung Gajah, Perak.
The racing academy will be taking part in the AAM Malaysia Cub Prix Championships next year in the CP115 and Wira categories.
Among the riders involved will be Khairul’s younger brother Anuar Ibrahim Pawi, Mohd Afizat Supaat, Mohd Amer Rossi Amidi as well as brothers Mohd Hazim and Mohd Haziq Rosmaza.
“The selection of riders was made in the middle of this year’s Cub Prix championship.
“We evaluated the potential riders who rode Honda bikes and invited them to train with me after the championship ended last month.
“They not only went through intensive training but we also provide them accommodation, fitness training and cycling activities,” said Khairul.
Asked about his team’s target for next year, Khairul said they are still on a learning curve.
“We will not set high targets but it’ll be good enough if they can finish in the top five,” said Khairul.
“We’ll be up against experienced teams. My father Khairul Pawi Omar will take care of the team as I’ll be in Europe most of the time when the Moto2 season starts.
“But I will be watching them race on the social media platform if I have the time.
“I’ll share what I went through last time with them,” he added.
