Jobless man kills father after New Year party

AN unemployed man slashed his father to death after a countdown party at a longhouse in Belaga, Sarawak, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested seven hours after the 4am incident on New Year’s Day.

A source said many of the residents had returned to their houses when the incident took place.

The source said the chieftain, a resident, the 60-year-old victim and the suspect were drinking when the suspect took out a parang and charged at the trio.

He allegedly slashed the victim on the neck, killing him on the spot.

Another resident was also injured when he tried to stop the suspect.

The suspect then threw the parang in the kitchen and ran off.

A police spokesman said the suspect, who was arrested at 11am on Monday, claimed that he hated his father who had abused him since he was young.

The suspect tested negative for drugs and police are trying to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol.

Some of the rapes even took place in front of the girl’s mother, who did not stop the incidents, the daily reported.

It said the girl first became pregnant when she was only 13, and the second time when she was 15. Both pregnancies were aborted.

However, she delivered a baby girl at Sibu Hospital last July after becoming pregnant for the third time.

A Bintulu police spokesman confirmed that the stepfather, who is in his 40s, and the girl’s mother were arrested on Sunday.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s mother married the man and moved to a longhouse in Bintulu when the girl was nine.

“About a year later, the stepfather started to rape the girl with the consent of the mother,” the police source said.

It was reported that by the time the girl’s parents found out about the third pregnancy, it was too late for an abortion.

Police said the stepfather raped the girl again on Dec 25 and left bruises on her leg.

A relative who visited on Saturday noticed the bruises and, after learning of the rapes, took the girl to lodge a police report on the same day.
