Suspect remanded four days over student’s abduction

KUANTAN: A suspect has been remanded for four days over the abduction of a 16-year-old student and for impersonating a police officer.

Pahang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Othman Nayan said the 32-year-old suspect was arrested at 2.05am in front of a hotel in Ipoh yesterday.

SAC Othman said they received a police report from the victim’s mother in Sungai Ruan, Raub, on Dec 27 last year.

“The suspect came to the house of the complainant in an unidentified car, claiming he was a policeman and asking for help from the victim to take his motorcycle in Sungai Ruan at around 11am. The complainant then allowed her son to follow the suspect,” said SAC Othman in a statement.

“At around 3pm, the mother received a call from the victim saying that he was in Gua Musang and that his gold bracelet was taken by the suspect, before the call was cut off.

“About 10 minutes later, the mother received an SMS from the victim saying: ‘ You don’t have to worry, mum.’”

Upon receiving the report, the state police contingent carried out a search for the Form Four student with the help of other police contingents.

On Dec 29, at around 11.15am, the victim safely arrived at the Raub bus station after the suspect sent the former on a bus from Kuala Lumpur.

“We identified the suspect and arrested him in front of a hotel in Ipoh,” he said.

The police also seized a car, two handphones and two RM50 notes.

SAC Othman added that the suspect from Bentong was also involved in six other cases around the country, including a rape case in Chukai, Terengganu.

“The suspect has been brought to Raub police station to assist in the case,” he said.
