Glenn beats Yusof in nail-biting playoff to win international junior title
DOMINIKUS Glenn of Indonesia recovered from three-shot deficit to beat Malaysia’s Yusof Affandy Jamaludin in an exciting six-hole sudden-death playoff and win the Kids Golf World Championship Malaysia boys 15-18 age group in Johor Bahru.
Glenn shot a 71 on the third day of the annual invitational after opening with a 78 and registering a second day 73. He finished with a 222 total.
Rishika Muralidhar of India also left her mark on the championship after she won the girls 11 year old title. She claimed her third title in three years at the event. Rishika won with a three-day score of 221.
Concept Collaboration Sdn. Bhd managing director Sukumaran Balakrishnan said the players were “extremely competitive and determined to be champions of their categories and qualify for an opportunity to play at the European Championships in Scotland and at Pinehurst Golf Club in North Carolina, US, next year.
“The championship is a great avenue for budding talent to showcase their skills and capabilities and to compete with players from not only within the region, but all over the globe.
“It is a testimony of the high standards of the championship that so many juniors come for the tournament each year in Malaysia,” he said.
Concept Collaboration are the organisers of the tournament.
Kids Golf World Championship Malaysia is the international version of the US Kids Golf tournament, an annual event held for children aged between 5 and 18, and offering an opportunity for them to compete and earn world amateur ranking points.
This year’s championship saw 300 young golfers compete for five prizes in 15 categories. These were boys 7 years and below, 8 years, 9 years, 10 years, 11 years, 12 years, 13 to 14 years and 15 to 18 years’ girls 8 years and below, 9 years, 10 years, 11 years, 12 years, 13 to 14 years and 15 to 18 years.
The championship was held in Malaysia for the sixth year with participants from more than 20 countries in attendance - Australia, Canada, China , France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
The tournament is presented by the US Kids Golf Foundation, managed by Concept Collaboration and sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association.
