Be united, Wan Azizah tells Opposition

-

SHAH ALAM: The Opposition must be seen as united, able to set aside political differences and solve misunderstandings in order to win the election, said Pakatan Harapan president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The PKR president also called for election machineries to be strengthened to challenge Barisan Nasional.

She added that the Opposition will only be relevant if it is able to bring change in policy and offer betterment to the country.

“Our real struggle begins after we win the mandate from the rakyat to rule the country,” she said in her speech at the Pakatan convention at the IDCC Convention Centre yesterday.

PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali proposed that Selangor be made the microcosm model for the setting up of a “New Malaysia” if Pakatan wins the polls and takes over Putrajaya.

The Selangor Mentri Besar said he was happy that the success of the state had been acknowledged.

“Although I have been attacked, bullied and criticised by those who only wear a towel, I am grateful that Selangor has been announced by the Department of Statistics as the most developed state in the country,” added Azmin, who is also Pakatan deputy president.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, also a Pakatan deputy president, assured civil servants that their future would be secure under Pakatan.

“We give out bonuses to the civil servants. Selangor gave three months’ bonus and Penang gave two months’ bonus, and these were given at the end of last year.

“But the Federal Government only gave a one-month bonus, but this too, was given partially, one in January and one in June,” said the DAP secretary-general.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin spoke about the need to be loyal and united in the unofficial coalition’s collective struggle to capture the government from Barisan.

He also warned those who may attempt to sabotage the choice of candidates.
