Hard to catch Fisher as he seeks to make a big splash

-

ENGLAND’S Ross Fisher is relishing the prospect of extending his unbeaten record in the EurAsia Cup when he makes his second straight appearance for title holders Team Europe tomorrow.

The 37-year-old emerged as one of the team’s top performers at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club two years ago, chalking up 2½ points from a possible three to help the Europeans whip Team Asia 18½-5½.

Fisher teamed up with Swede Kristoffer Broberg to claim an emphatic 6&4 win over KoreanThai combination Kim Kyung-taePrayad Marksaeng in the opening fourball session.

It was recorded as the biggest margin victory in the tournament to date.

Fisher won his second match with Austrian Bernd Wiesberger in the foursomes, beating Kyungtae and compatriot Wang Jeunghun 2-up, but fell short of securing a 100% record as he only managed to draw with Jeung-hun in the singles.

As one of three returning players besides Wiesberger and fellow Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick, Fisher is keen to score further wins to his name to become the player with the most points won in EurAsia Cup history.

Frenchman Victor Dubuisson, English trio Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Andy Sullivan and India’s Anirban Lahiri are the joint record-holders.

“It would be nice (to keep the unbeaten record intact),” said Fisher, a five-time European Tour champion.

“Obviously I had a great time here two years ago ... won the fourballs handsomely with Kristoffer Broberg, and then with Bernd, won our foursomes game.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to win my singles, lost a halve. It was really fond memories of that week, a lot of fun.”

The world No. 31 Fisher added that making Thomas Bjorn’s side for this week means a lot to him as he set his sights on earning a second Ryder Cup appearance later in September under the same captain.

Fisher was part of the 2010 winning team that beat the United States 14-13 in Wales. He won two points from four matches back then.
