JOHOR BARU: A restaurant owner is walking the talk to help Johoreans face the rising costs of living with his “unity rice” offerings.

A family of three can get their meals and drinks for just RM10 at Restoran Ejohng Concept in Taman Sri Pulai Perdana.

Mohamad Faizdal Zainal’s special Nasi Muafakat Bangsa Johor is proving to be a big hit. Each packet includes chicken, beef or catfish with vegetables.

“We sell about 800 packets daily, which includes takeaways. Those eating at our restaurant enjoy free flow of iced syrup or tea,’’ he said.

Faizdal said the chicken and beef were cooked in various ways daily, from masak merah and stir fried to adding black soya sauce, black pepper or curry.

“Catfish tastes better when it is cooked spicy,’’ he added.

The food is prepared at the restaurant’s main kitchen in Taman Impian Emas here.

The enterprising businessman is also going the extra mile by sharing his “recipe for success” with those in other states.

“We have students from two public universities in Selangor selling nasi muafakat at their Shah Alam and Serdang campuses.

“We also have several students from a university in Kelantan who buy our in-house spices to sell the rice there,” he said, adding that he wanted to help graduates become self-dependent.

Faizdal maintains a central kitchen in Putrajaya to prepare the nasi muafakat for an outlet in Precinct 13, as well as for students at Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

“We are more than happy making just a small profit,’’ he added.

Over here, the restaurant distrib-

utes free meals to up to 200 homeless people near Komtar JBCC and JB Night Bazaar every Friday and Saturday from midnight to 4am.

Customers Muhammad Zaid Ishak and Nurul Syafiqah, both 22, said it was their second visit to the restaurant.

“Where can you get three packets

of food for RM10 with drinks thrown in? Nowhere else in JB, that’s for sure,” said Zaid.

Housewife Zakiah Mamat, 36, said she bought nasi muafakat for her five children four times a week.

“It is much cheaper than cooking for them,” she quipped.
