Wee: Johor Chinese schools in the works as planned

JOHOR BARU: The new five Chinese primary schools or SJK (C) to be built in Johor are expected to be completed and operationa­l as planned, said deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee, who is also Johor MCA chairman, said the party received reports from the schools’ board of directors on its progress and find it to be satisfacto­ry.

“We gave them a month to identify suitable sites for the new schools. They were able to get this done within a short period,” he said at a press conference after chairing a closed door meeting with the board of directors from the five schools at SJK (C) Johor Jaya here yesterday.

Dr Wee said various other preparatio­n works for the schools – such as getting the necessary develop- ment planning approvals – were also completed.

The new five schools are SJK (C) Kuek Ho Yao in Mount Austin; SJK (C) Sim Mow Yu in Meridin east, Taman Bistari Perdana and SJK (C) Tun H.S. Lee in Bandar Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram in the Tebrau constituen­cy.

SJK (C) Cheah Fah in Sunway Iskandar, Iskandar Puteri and SJK (C) Tan Kah Kee, Gerbang Nusajaya, Iskandar Puteri are in the Gelang Patah parliament­ary constituen­cy.

He said apart from the five schools, the Education Ministry approved the relocation of SJK (C) Poay Chai in Singkir, Kedah to Taman Bukit Indah near here.

The applicatio­n to relocate SJK (C) Ladang Grisek, Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang is in process.

At the event Dr Wee also announced that MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Hou Kok Hung was appointed to oversee the developmen­t of the five SJK (C) and the relocation of the two SJK (C) in Johor.

On the preparatio­ns for the upcoming general election, he said MCA’s election machinery is already in place, adding the party started preparing after the GE13 in 2013.
