PETALING JAYA: Netizens are calling for stricter enforcement on residents who throw litter from highrise apartments.

Angry emoticons are being used to symbolise the anger netizens feel about the lack of civic-consciousness among those who live in People’s Housing Project (PPR) apartments.

On Facebook, Sawadee Sabaai said stringent rules should be enforced on residents living in highrise buildings.

“Stern action must be applied so cleanliness and safety (are maintained),” he said.

Choo Eng Hong said stricter punishment was required for people who committed acts such as hurling furniture from the top floors of their apartment units.

He added that “CCTVs must be installed”.

Choo said with video technology, people who committed acts such as throwing furniture from the top floors could be caught.

Meanwhile, Sunny Dave Bhandal said the Government should come up with better guidelines and impose a heavier punishment.

Sunny also suggested that enforcement should come from the residents themselves.

“Probably each floor appoints their own captain and rotate the task among themselves,” he said.

Ng Tzu Way said people who threw rubbish from the top floors were plain lazy.

“(They have) a brain and legs but don’t want to use them.

“So strict punishment must be enforced. Catch those culprits,” he said.

However, Maya Aditya questioned those who were quick to blame the authorities when debris were thrown from high-rise apartments.

“Why are we so quick to blame the authorities? Is there no moral duty on the part of the residents to maintain cleanliness.

“They should maintain cleanliness without the need to be monitored,” said Maya.
