Selangor BN against EC’s proposals on state boundaries

-

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Barisan Nasional is unhappy with the Election Commission’s (EC) latest proposals on electoral boundaries in the state and will submit objections soon.

Describing the proposals as “imbalanced”, its chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said it did not reflect on the number of voters, state assem- bly seats and local council representation.

“For example, the Kapar parliamentary constituency has 146,000 voters, Klang 98,000 and Kota Raja 110,000 voters.

“Why does Klang have 98,000 voters and is considered a town, while Kapar is not considered as one? We are not happy and are dis- appointed with the EC,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Noh said, there are nine state seats in the three parliamentary constituencies but that the state seats were not divided equally among the three seats.

He said Kapar had four state seats compared to three under Klang.

“Kota Raja, which has more vot- ers than Klang, has only two state seats.

“Why not divide the state assembly seats equally (among the three parliamentary seats)?” he said.

Noh said while the Barisan respected the efforts of the EC as an independent body, he wanted to know if the commission felt “threatened” by criticisms made by the Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor government.

He said the Barisan would submit its objections to the EC by the Feb 14 closing date.

“I am confident that our objections will be seen as logical and reasonable. We will file it professionally and according to the rules and regulations,” he added.
