New schools to ease congestion in Hulu Langat
HULU LANGAT: Two schools will be built to cope with the rising number of students here.
The Education Ministry has approved the construction of SMK Bandar Bukit Mahkota and SK Pelangi Semenyih in view of the district’s growth.
“New schools are needed as the existing ones are overcrowded,” said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
The construction of SMK Bandar Bukit Mahkota will be included under the 11th Malaysia Plan (20162020), while a total of RM31.2mil has already been allocated for SK Pelangi Semenyih.
“SK Pelangi Semenyih will have 24 classrooms. We expect the building to be ready in three years,” Mahdzir told a press conference at SK Bandar Seri Putra here yesterday.
Mahdzir added that the new schools would ease the congestion in SMK Bandar Seri Putra, which has more than 3,000 students, and SK Bandar Seri Putra, which has over 2,500 pupils.
“To ensure that our special needs children are not neglected, we are also expanding the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI) to SK Bangi,” he said, adding that the overcrowded PPKI in SK Bandar Seri Putra was not condu- cive for pupils.
Mahdzir also visited seven schools in the district and presented a total of RM1.5mil to those in critical need of maintenance.
