Felda land deal probe far from over, says A-G

KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into the allegedly dubious deal of Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) land in Jalan Semarak is far from complete, says AttorneyGeneral Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.

He said the investigation paper (IP) was referred to his Chambers (AGC) for certain specific instructions.

“I can confirm that the AGC did receive the IP on the Felda land plot in Jalan Semarak,” Apandi said when contacted yesterday.

“But I must correct the erroneous perception that the investigation into the matter by the police has been completed. In fact, it is far from complete.”

He said the IP was referred to the AGC for certain specific instructions, of which he was not able to disclose.

“It is not accurate to say that the police await our instructions, whether to prefer charges or other- wise, since the investigation on the matter is still ongoing and is yet to be completed,” he added.

Apandi’s comments were sought after Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad showed the media earlier yesterday copies of the land grants and the memorandum of transfer which had been returned to Felda.

It was reported on Dec 21 that Felda was at risk of losing ownership of the land plots worth about RM200mil in Jalan Semarak following a supposedly dubious deal made in 2015.

The land transfer was believed to have occurred after Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) appointed a local company as the primary developer on June 3, 2014, and it was given full power of attorney to develop the land.

The project is being developed by Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd.

About a month after the news broke, Felda successfully recovered ownership of 16 strategic plots of land along Jalan Semarak here from a local company.
