Wee: Johor govt has always helped SJK(C)

-

YONG PENG: The Johor state government has always been helpful when it comes to allocating land and providing aid for Chinese schools statewide.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said that besides allocating land, they also imposed minimal charges on quit rent and provided grants.

“Claims that the state government has not been taking care of Chinese schools are totally untrue.

“In fact, for the past 16 years, it has given 22 pieces of land for Chinese schools and sped up the approvals from the relevant authorities,” he said after the ground-breaking ceremony for an additional block at SJK(C) Lam Lee here yesterday.

Dr Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, cited a case in Selangor where the allocation from the Education Ministry was ready but construction had not begun due to the many conditions imposed by the authorities.

“We do not have these problems in Johor. This should be a model for other states as this kind of help is also extended to other schools, including Tamil and religious schools,” he said.

He added that Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had given allocations of up to RM1.3mil for Foon Yew High School in Bandar Seri Alam in a year.

“We all do our best to channel our resources as in my constituency alone, I have 50 schools to take care of,” he said.
