MCA Youth working continuously to resolve issues

IPOH: MCA Youth members are already on the ground to meet the people and help resolve their grouses and problems in the run-up to the polls.

Perak MCA Youth chief Ting Tai Fook said the members did not even care who would be chosen to contest, adding that they would continue to work for the party.

“We don’t care who the candidate is. MCA Youth is on the ground, working continuously to help the people,” he said after chairing the state youth wing annual general meeting here yesterday.

On the #UndiRosak movement, Ting described the act of deliberately spoiling a vote as “irresponsible”.

Ting said each ballot cast by the voters determined the country’s future and the people, especially the young, should not waste it.

“I think it is also a shameful thing to do. The ballot paper is valuable. It doesn’t matter who you support. Just don't spoil it,” he said.

“We, the MCA Youth, do not support it (the movement). Instead, we strongly urge the people to fulfil their responsibility as a citizen to cast their vote,” he added.

Ting said based on the number of applications to join the party, there would be an increase in support from young voters in the general election.

“We have received many applications to join the party, especially from young professionals like doctors, engineers and teachers.

“Rationally, this will mean more support than the previous elections.

“They have their own thinking and many have misinterpreted in the past, thinking that the Opposition could bring changes.

“They know now and realise that instability can cause a country to collapse,” he said.

Ting said the AGM also passed four resolutions, including providing full support to the Barisan Nasional Youth election machinery, promoting training sessions for polling and counting agents and booth observers and countering misinformation by the Opposition.

IPOH: Perak DAP is expected to field at least three new faces at GE14.

A source said national DAP Youth (Dapsy) executive council member and Perak Dapsy secretary Jenny Choy Tsi Jen would be one of them.

Others also include state DAP Public Complaints Bureau chief Steven Chaw and state party Economic Development Bureau chief Chong Zhemin.

The party source said the names were submitted to the national party leadership.

“All of them have a good chance to be fielded, and have been actively performing for the party

“Choy is being considered for Canning while Chong is to stand in Keranji,” the source said.

“As for Chaw, the party has yet to decide on the constituency he would be contesting in.”

The Canning state seat is currently held by national Dapsy chief Wong Kah Woh while Chen Fook Chye is the incumbent for Keranji.

The source said Wong was still being considered for either another state constituency or to contest a parliamentary seat.

Chen is to be dropped.

As for state party chairman Nga Kor Ming and state party adviser Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, the source said it would be status quo.

Both are set to dominate the state party again by contesting a parliamentary and a state assembly seat each.

Nga is the Taiping MP and Kepayang state assemblyman while Ngeh is the incumbent for Beruas parliamentary seat and is the Sitiawan state assemblyman.

“The candidates for the other state and parliamentary seats are also expected to be the same faces,” the source said.

As for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat, he said they had yet to decide on a candidate.

When asked whether Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, who contested and lost against Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong at the 2014 by-election would be considered, the source said: “The sentiment now is that it’s better to put a local there.

“Mah has the advantage with his family there, so it’s important that we try to field a local too.”
