Enrique new favourite to land Chelsea manager job

-

LONDON: Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique (pic) has become the new favourite to land the Chelsea job – with Antonio Conte expected to be sacked.

The Blues are on a shocking run of form and were thumped 4-1 away at Watford in the English Premier League on Monday.

Stamford Bridge chiefs are set to hold talks over Conte’s future and he faces the axe.

Enrique, 47, is now the frontrunner for the job, after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season.

Bookmakers Paddy Power have even taken a five-figure wager on him becoming the next Chelsea boss in their Kings Road branch.

He is now in at 13-5 to take over from Conte, overtaking Carlo Ancelotti in the betting.

On Monday, the Irish bookie suspended taking bets on the Italian being sacked yesterday.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “When Conte is sacked, he’ll still be Blue.

“The fiery Italian’s tenure at Stamford Bridge has been fraught with tantrums and bust-ups.

“We thought he was a goner within months of arriving, after a string of ‘in the know’ bets.

“This time around, there appears to be very little chance of him upsetting the odds again.

“We expect him to become the latest champion to be sacked within a year of lifting the Premier League trophy.”
