Munzon: Look at the man in the mirror, Dragons!

PETALING JAYA: Westports Malaysia Dragons cager Joshua Munzon has urged his teammates to look into the mirror and reflect on their failing season in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).

The Dragons fell to their fourth straight defeat (82-92) against CLS Knights of Indonesia on Sunday.

With star point guard Marcus Marshall still out with a knee injury, Filipino-American shooting guard Munzon has been carrying the load for the team as he finished with 29 points.

Munzon, however, received little help from his fellow imports with Patrick Cabahug only making five points while centre AJ West gave yet another miserable performance with just seven points.

The local selection have done a much better job with Wong Yi Hou shooting 16 points while Kuek Tian Yuan had 15.

“It was a tough defeat against the Knights. They were getting the calls and we were not.

“We were good in stretches but every time we got closer, they turned it around.

“I would say the ball was mostly bouncing their way.

“At this stage of the season, everyone’s got to look in the mirror and ask themselves if they are tired of losing.

“We can’t come out like this every game and expect to win games. We have to start doing better for our own pride.

“Defence is also something we have to look at as a group. The Knights pretty much took open shots the whole game.

“We’re not giving up yet but we really got to start doing a lot better,” said Munzon.

The Dragons’ latest defeat left them rooted at seventh in the nineteam league with a 3-8 record.

Time is running out for them to earn a top-six finish to make the playoffs.

They face another daunting task when they travel to Hong Kong to take on defending champions Hong Kong Eastern today.
