Argentinian girl found in Indonesia thanks to tip-offs
PETALING JAYA: Seven-yearold Argentinian girl Alum Langone Avalos has been found in Indonesia and has reunited with her mother, thanks to information provided by Malaysians.
In a statement, the Argentinian Embassy in Malaysia said the girl, who was reported missing since June 2017, had been found “after an arduous seven-month-long search”.
“The great media attention that this news garnered has helped to create awareness – not only in Malaysia but also in other SouthEast Asian countries.
“Kind and helpful Malaysians reached out to assist in different ways and most importantly, to report the location of Alum and her abductors which finally led to their successful find in Indonesia,” it said.
Alum’s mother Elizabeth Avalos had recently pleaded for public help to locate her only daughter, who was taken from Argentina illegally by her former partner – the girl’s father – and was spotted in various locations in Malaysia.
Elizabeth is currently in Indonesia with Alum and they are preparing to make their way home to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Argentinian Embassy in Jakarta had also confirmed the detention of Alum’s abductors on Tuesday.
Thanking Malaysians for their help and cooperation, Argentinian Ambassador Manuel Balaguer Salas said the reunion would not have been possible without the continuous support from everyone.
