Barcelona player Luis Suarez finds roti canai, nasi lemak and char kuey teow have got a real kick.

PETALING JAYA: One of the world’s most famous footballer­s has given the thumbs up – to Malaysian food.

Uruguay’s star striker Luis Suarez (pic) took a break from his dazzling runs on the pitch to sample local delights such as roti canai, satay, char koay teow and nasi lemak.

Polishing off a plate of satay, he then asked for more. He described nasi lemak as “tasty and complete”.

“It has egg, chicken, fish and rice. Very yummy!” quipped the former Liverpool forward who now plies his trade with La Liga’s premier football club Barcelona.

In a video posted on Tourism Malaysia’s Facebook page on Monday, Suarez, who is Malaysia’s Tourism Ambassador, is also seen sampling spicy popiah. No prizes for guessing what he did next – sipping water.

The video uploaded on his social media accounts on Feb 4 got 509,373 views on Instagram and over 78,000 views and 435 retweets on Twitter. It also got 61,000 hits on his Facebook page.

“I went to Sarawak last month. It’s a beautiful place with beautiful people,” commented netizen Pinky West on FB.

The over two-minute video has 7,400 v views on Tourism Malaysia’s FB. To ourism Malaysia recently sealed a year-long partnershi­p deal with Su uarez.

This followed a contract with Mediap pro, the footballer’s Asian represe entative.
