Ti-Ratana founder Dhammaratana backs Star Media Group and SkyWorld’s campaign to help the needy.
PETALING JAYA: Ti-Ratana founder Most Venerable Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana believes firmly in the value of sharing with others.
He voiced out his support for the #DaretoCare campaign and its effort towards providing help for the good of the less fortunate.
“I read about the campaign in The Star lately and decided to participate in this campaign by giving out food and personal hygiene products to underprivileged people.
“If we have extras, we should always give and care for their needs; we can always offer our help to society within our capacity,” he said.
Dhammaratana, who is also the Chief High Priest of Malaysia, said children at the Ti-Ratana welfare society were also facing challenges due to the economy, but people still step up to help however much they can.
“Our charity donation has decreased by 45%, in light of the current tough financial climate.
“This has caused us to restructure some activities such as meals, school fees and tuition fees as well as pocket money for the children.
“But, inspired by the teachings of Buddhism, we want to continue practising the act of giving voluntarily,” he said.
He said this act of giving is especially important for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
“Apart from contributing basic items, it helps to spread festive cheer to those who receive them,” Dhammaratana said.
By encouraging the children from the welfare home to take part, he said this meaningful act will also nurture a spirit of caring and generosity in the children from young.
Nine-year-old Sarada of the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society said he felt happy that he could be part of the charity initiative.
#DaretoCare is a joint charity initiative championed by Star Media Group and SkyWorld Development Group to address the needs of welfare homes in Malaysia.
The campaign encourages the public to give and help the less fortunate by filling gifts or donations of essential items in the brown paper bags.
The filled bags can be dropped off at SkyWorld’s property galleries in Sentul, Setiawangsa, Bukit Jalil and Setapak, after which, from now until Feb 15, the developer will collect and distribute the items to selected welfare homes.
Alternatively, donors can also get the paper bags at any of the property galleries, or drop off the donations directly.
