Pribumi gets most of Johor state seats

Muhyiddin: Parties under state Pakatan Harapan have reached consensus on allocation

JOHOR BARU: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) is getting the lion’s share of Johor state seats for the coming general election.

Party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said its candidates will stand in 18 state seats.

He said all four parties under the banner of Johor Pakatan Harapan – Pribumi, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and PKR – have reached a consensus.

He said DAP has been allocated 14 seats, while Amanah and PKR will each contest 12 seats.

“It shows that we have no issues or prob- lems in allocating the 56 state seats in Johor among us,” Muhyiddin told reporters at Johor Pribumi headquarters in Taman Kempas Utama here.

With the seat allocation settled, he said Johor Pakatan would focus on wrestling the state from Barisan Nasional.

He said Johor Pakatan would come out with specific offers for voters in Johor, including on economic development and cost of living, which would be brought first to Pakatan’s presidential council at the national level.

He said Pribumi would hold a mammoth gathering in south Johor on April 6 at a location to be confirmed at a later date.

“Our chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and other top leaders from DAP and Amanah will attend,” said Muhyiddin.

Separately, he said Pribumi was frustrated with the Registrar of Societies for refusing to meet their leaders to resolve issues related to the party.

“We tried everything, including submitting letters and calling them to set dates for appointments to no avail,” said Muhyiddin.
