Pribumi wants more seats in Selangor

Info chief: Party founded to replace Umno so it’s only right that we contest in their areas

SHAH ALAM: The tussle for seats among Pakatan Harapan parties in Selangor has heated up, with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia demanding to be given more seats to contest in the coming general election.

Pribumi information chief Sallehudin Amiruddin said that Selangor Pribumi had rejected the seat distribution proposal at the state Pakatan meeting on Wednesday.

He added that during the second meeting yesterday, Selangor Pribumi had indicated that it wanted to contest all 12 state seats held by Umno in Selangor.

“This is because Pribumi was founded to defeat and replace Umno. So it is only right that we contest in all Umno-held state seats here in Selangor,” he said when met after the second day of the meeting at the PKR general election action centre at Vista Alam here.

Sallehudin said that during the first day of the state Pakatan meeting on Wednesday, it was decided that Sijangkang and Jeram would be given to Pribumi.

“However, we later realised that Sijangkang is actually a PAS-held seat, which Parti Amanah Negara will be contesting.

“So we decided not to consider that seat. We will take Jeram and field our candidate there,” he added.

It was reported that 35 seats – 62.5% of the total seats to be contested by Selangor Pakatan, were settled in the first seat alloca- tion meeting on Wednesday.

Selangor Pakatan secretary Zuraida Kamaruddin said that more intensive seat negotiations would be held this week to settle the 21 remaining seats with overlapping claims from parties in Pakatan.

When met yesterday, Zuraida said that another seat to be contested by Selangor Pakatan parties was settled during the onehour discussion. She declined to name the seat involved.

Yesterday’s meeting was chaired by Selangor Pakatan election director Dr Xavier Jayakumar.
