Move to help Felda obtain high-speed Internet connection

-

MUAR: The Johor government will help Felda obtain high-speed Internet connectivity and to modernise farming methods at all settlements in the state, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin

He said Internet connectivity will be provided by Digital Johor, a state government agency under Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor.

“Felda and its settlers must have 21st century connectivity as it is important to ensure its progress.

“At the same time, second and third generation Felda settlers must also implement 21st century knowledge and skills,” he said while in Pagoh, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, at Felda Maokil here.

Mohamed Khaled added the state and Federal governments are cooperating to produce 5,000 millennial settlers using modern agricultural methods within five years.

“We want them to be farm entrepreneurs and we believe future generations of Felda settlers must continue in this field but with new skills and technology.

“The state government has allocated RM1.5mil through Tabung Latihan Kemahiran Johor for the sole purpose of training young Felda settlers and we are seeking additional funds from the Federal Government,” he said.

He also urged settlers to support the Federal Government’s move to protest against the European Union’s campaign to stop the import of palm oil products into Europe.

“We have been accused of not caring for the environment, child labour and that our products are harmful and unhealthy for consumption. If we don’t stop this campaign, the livelihood of Felda settlers, the state and the country could be affected,” he said.
