RM20k reward for info on missing Australian
GEORGE TOWN: The family of a missing Australian woman is offering a sum of RM20,000 for information on her whereabouts.
On Dec 13, Annapuranee Jenkins disappeared mysteriously in the city after getting off a hailed ride on a busy street.
She was on the way to see her mother in an old folk’s home here when she got off near the Jalan Scotland-Jalan York junction.
Since that day, Annapuranee, 66, was never seen again.
Her son, who wished to be known as S. Jenkins, 38, said the family would offer a reward to anyone with information, leading to her being located.
“We appreciate any help. This reward is just a way of raising awareness and hopefully, encouraging the people with any information to come forward,” he said.
Jenkins said the family had also engaged Panoptic Solution Inc, an Australian firm that deals with risk management, personal protection and missing people cases.
“We have so far handed out 4,000 flyers and ordered another 1,500.
“The community has been very supportive, reaching out to us and sending messages,” he said, adding that he returned home to Australia on Sunday.
Jenkins said if there were new developments, he would fly down here again after the Chinese New Year.
Panoptic Solution operations manager Ben Hosking said they had spoken to some shelters and churches and were working with the police and the Australian consulate in Penang.
“The police informed us they had formed a task force to locate her,” he said.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the task force was formed a week after a missing person report was lodged.
Prior to going missing, Annapuranee, fondly known as Anna or Ranee, was on holiday here with her husband.
