Sumareh sees seasoned Liberian as solution to Pahang’s problem

PETALING JAYA: Gambian striker Mohamadou Sumareh believes Pahang have found the solution to their winless run in the Super League.

Sumareh sees the signing of seasoned Liberian striker Francis Doe in place of misfiring Argentine striker Sergio Unrein should help the Elephants overcome Kelantan at the Darul Makmur Stadium tonight.

Pahang struggled in their last two matches without a proven target man. They were held 00 by Perak on Feb 4 and edged 10 by PKNS on Wednesday.

Doe is a familiar face in the MLeague, having played with Terengganu, Selangor, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan and Felda United for the last six years.

He was also the joint Golden Boot winner with Jean Effa Owona with 15 goals in the 2012 Super League season.

Sumareh said the 32yearold Doe’s familiarity with the MLeague was a big plus point as the team looked to break the duck.

“We’ll play better because we now have a proper target man,” he said.

“The local attackers like Kogie (M. Kogileswaran Raj) and Mat Yo (Norshahrul Idlan Talaha) have played well but they often get outmuscled by the bigger foreign defenders.

“Doe is a known face in the team, everyone has played against or with him in the last six years, so it will be easy for him to adapt.

“He can hold the ball well up front and also score,” said the 23yearold Sumareh.

Like Pahang, Kelantan too have failed to record a win after two matches and are desperate after losing their opening match 21 to Melaka on Feb 3 and drawing 11 with Terengganu on Tuesday.

But winger Sumareh has warned his teammates not to take the outofsorts Red Warriors lightly.

“Kelantan are winless like us. We can’t take it easy against them, there are no easy matches in the Super League. If you take your opponent for granted, you will be punished,” he said.

“We’ve not delivered any wins yet but our fans have been patient with us, so it’s time to repay their support.

“We need to play beautiful football and win matches.”
