Conference brings together experts

-

THE First International Asean-English Language Teaching (AseanELT 2018) conference will be held from March 15 to 17 at Hotel Equatorial Melaka.

It is the first conference to actually bring together practitioners and researchers from all 10 Asean countries, and has already attracted a number of paper presenters and participants.

This is not surprising due to the diverse line-up of speakers who will bring their distinctive experience and expert knowledge related to English Language teaching.

While there are many new speakers, some regular speakers have been brought back due to popular demand. These include National Laureate Muhammad Salleh and Janeen Brian, an Australian children’s author and poet.

The conference will also feature English Language teaching icon, Rod Ellis whose many publications include include articles and books on second language acquisition, language teaching and teacher education.

Other names in the field of English Language teaching who will be part of the conference include Carolyn Graham and Jan Blake.

Experts in socio linguistics and assessment such as Hywel Coleman, David Reeve and Antony Kunnan, will also be speakers at the conference.

The conference will include workshops on drama as well as performances by actress Pearlly Chuah who will once again bring to life, “Emily of Emerald Hill” in her Evening of Scenes.

With the theme, “Maximising the Potential in Asean Diversities Through English”, the AseanELT 2018 will have a good balance between presentations that focus on best practices and those related to research.

AseanELT 2018 is organised by Prof Jayakaran Mukundan from Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universitas Islam Negri Jakarta, Indonesia together with Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, Thailand, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Mara and the Education Ministry.
