Struggling Dragons likely to sack three imports

- By KNG ZHENG GUAN

PETALING JAYA: The struggling Westports Malaysia Dragons are ready to make changes to their roster in a last-ditch attempt to earn a playoff spot in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).

The Dragons have suffered six defeats with their latest 81-114 humiliation at the hands of the Saigon Heat last Sunday.

That is the last straw for the Dragons’ management and they are ready to wield the axe.

Prized point guard Marcus Marshall, who has never been able to replicate his 60-point performance against the Mono Vampire Basketball Club, is likely to be the first to go.

Fellow world import AJ West and Filipino shooter Patrick Cabahug are also likely tobe axed.

Filipino-American wingman Joshua Munzon will be spared as he has been the Dragons’ most effective performer in their last few matches.

The Dragons are believed to have already lined up three imports as replacements – Chris Eversley, Bryan Davis and Jawhar Purdy.

Eversley, a 26-year-old forward, played for the Dragons in 2014 before the American left for Europe for stints in Belgium and the German Bundesliga.

The 31-year-old American Davis, a 2.06m forward-centre, has played for Taiwan Beer in Taiwan’s Super Basketball League (SBL) for the last two years.

Fil-Am guard Purdy, 26, a former PBA draft pick, last played for the Mad Goat in the Thailand Basketball League (TBL).

The Dragons, who are 3-10 for the season, need to win their last seven matches in order to make the top six playoff spot.
