THE MercedesTrophy, a tournament series for customers worldwide to experience the Mercedes-Benz lifestyle through their passion for golf, will have this year’s national final played at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club in Kota Kemuning, Selangor.

After years at Saujana Golf & Country Club, the annual showpiece that comes in the wake of nine qualifying rounds, will be staged at the popular Kota Kemuning course on May 8.

This will be the 28th year of the event and at a launch this week Mercedes-Benz Malaysia president and chief executive officer Dr Claus Weidner said: “Fascination, performance and passion are three words synonymous with the game of golf and Mercedes-Benz. And like our products, golf is a game of perfection - each and every stroke perfect.

“The strong connection between the game and our brand has led to the active involvement of Mercedes-Benz in this sport since 1989.

“Today, the MercedesTrophy has evolved into a very successful tournament series for amateurs, staged over 60 countries and we’re very proud to host it for the 28th year in Malaysia.”

Each year more than 60,000 golfers from around the world, tee off in local, regional and national invitational tournaments in the hope of qualifying for the MercedesTrophy world final to be held in Stuttgart, Germany.

“The MercedesTrophy tournament series in Malaysia will be played in nine qualifying rounds this year and our marketing partners include CrestLink, TaylorMade, Epos Watches, Kinslager, The Edge, The Saujana Hotel & Resort and Carlsberg,” added Weidner .

The top three winners from each category at each qualifying round will progress to the national final at Kota Permai,” said Weidner. “And the top two winners in each handicap category for men and the winner of the women’s category at the national final will qualify for the MercedesTrophy Asia regional final at Sanctuary Cove, Australia, from Aug 5 to 8.

The winner of each handicap category at the regional final will then qualify for the world final in Stuttgart from Oct 2 to 7.

The players at the world final will also get the chance to meet Mercedes-Benz global brand ambassador Rickie Fowler.

The first player to hit a hole-in-one at the designated par-3 holes at each venue will win the all-new Mercedes-Benz E 200 Avantgarde or Epos 3435 Verso timepiece. There will also be other prizes on offer, including Mercedes-Benz merchandise.

The “Drive to the Major” is a nearest-to-the-line novelty contest at the Asia regional final, whose winner will this year play at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland, the day after the British Open.

The “Drive to the Major” is the only entry point worldwide to the ‘Monday After Event’ played on the same course as the season’s third Major championship.

Among other things, the winner of this contest will receive VIP invitation-only tickets to the British Open and an exciting supplementary programme.

The MercedesTrophy is open only to Mercedes-Benz owners with an entry fee of RM380. To register log onto mercedes-benz.com.my
