Mosque hosts CNY open house
The Tun Abdul Aziz Mosque in PJ marks its 41st year in a special way.
PETALING JAYA: The Masjid Tun Abdul Aziz here marked its 41st year in a special way – by holding a Chinese New Year open house.
A multiracial mix of people were seen tossing yee sang at the Dato’ Abdul Wabah Majid hall during the open house.
Other activities included a lucky draw, a tour of the mosque, and an exhibition on the importance of community relations focusing on welfare, education and health.
Mosque officials were also seen presenting ang pows to visitors.
There was also a forum titled “Rich and Successful Chinese” with Chinese- Muslim academics Noraishah Chua and Muhd Fuad
Yeoh as speakers.
The anniversary celebration, from Thursday to yesterday, also included lectures from popular scholars such as Datuk Dr Zaharuddin Abdul Rahman and Datuk Dr Abdul Basit Abd Rahman.
The event was organised by the mosque and the Hidayah Centre Foundation.
According to a video posted on the mosque’s Facebook page, the celebration was aimed at strengthening the bond between Muslims
and non-Muslims.
The mosque is named after former Selangor Mentri Besar Tun Abdul Aziz Majid, and was known as Masjid Bulat for its circular design when it was completed in 1977.
