Consequences are bad when borrowing money from loan sharks

-

KUANTAN: Those who borrow money from illegal money lenders or loan sharks (Ah Long) need to know its consequences, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that there were various reasons that drive them to borrow money illegally.

“We don’t want to interfere in their personal affairs but, at the same time, we want their cooperation.

“If they are threatened, please inform the police immediately so that action can be taken earlier,” he told reporters after attending the Pahang Royal Malaysia police management meeting here yesterday.

Also present at the event was Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Rosli Ab Rahman.

Dr Ahmad Zahid was commenting on the action of a group of individuals, believed to be loan sharks, who locked their victims in their home at Taman Cheras Prima, Kajang, Selangor, before setting the two-storey terrace house on fire on Saturday.

The six family members escaped unharmed.

On the meeting, Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said he was satisfied with the preparations made by the police for the coming general election.

“The police preparation involved aspects of public order and security during and after the dissolution (of Parliament) as well as on polling day and after polling has been concluded,” he said.

At a separate function, Dr Ahmad Zahid advised Barisan Nasional members to work hard and ensure that the coalition’s candidates would win the election, regardless of which component party they were from.

He added that party members should ensure that Barisan continued to get the mandate to govern the country with a significant victory.

“In this critical period, every leader of the Village Development and Security Committees especially, must also be the eyes and ears of the state and federal governments besides giving the best service to the rakyat,” he said at the closing of the Eastern Zone Certificate Programme on Infra UniKL Rural Governance at the Bukit Gambang Resort here.
