JDT COACH MORAIS STEPS DOWN

- By K. RAJAN

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Tazim (JDT) head coach Ulisses Morais has stepped down from his position due to “health reasons in the family”.

The Portuguese coach’s resignation was announced in JDT’s official website and their social media accounts yesterday.

“Today is a very sad day for me as my duty ends at this great club,” said the 58-year-old coach in the statement.

“As in everything in life, we all have priorities.

“Due to health reasons in the family, I’m forced to leave you.

“No amount of words can express my gratitude for the times we spent together and the many titles we’ve won.

“You have my eternal thanks. “I’m blessed and honoured to be in the history books of JDT and the memories of Johor.

“JDT will always be embedded in my heart.”

Morais was appointed to the hot seat in June 2017, after Mexican coach Benjamin Mora was demoted to coach JDT II following several poor results.

Morais brought stability to the team in the second half of the season, guiding the Southern Tigers to their fourth consecutive Super League title and their first-ever Malaysia Cup title.

The Portuguese coach leaves JDT at the top of the 12-team Super League with nine points from four matches after three wins and one defeat.
