Perak PAS to field four non-Muslims to capture more seats

Perak PAS is planning to field four non-Muslim candidates in the coming general election.

State commissioner Razman Zakaria (pic) said the candidates could be from its non-Muslim PAS Supporters’ Congress.

“We have many members from various backgrounds comprising youths, working professionals, reli- gious scholars, women’s wing and non-Muslim supporters.

“We understand that the country’s political scene requires a diverse coalition. So we will select candidates to suit this line-up for GE14,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Leading the Gagasan Sejahtera pact, Razman said PAS would work together with three other component parties to contest in all 24 parliamentary seats and 59 state seats in the state.

“We will contest 19 parliamentary and 43 state seats.

“The balance of seats will be given to Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia, Parti Cinta Malaysia and Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia,” he said, adding that the coalition aimed to win at least 30 state seats in Perak.

Razman said PAS has a clean record when it comes to corruption, citing Kelantan which has zero cases under investigation by the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission.

Based on this, he said it showed PAS leaders have integrity.

Asked if the list of candidates had been finalised, Razman said it would be handed over to the party’s central leadership for a decision.

“We will never fight for seats like other parties,” he said.

On the state manifesto for GE14, Razman said there would be nine core agendas, touching on important issues such as economy, education and infrastructure.
