WAO: Cop’s treatment of road bully victim appalling
KUALA LUMPUR: The Women’s Aid Organisation has hit out at the police for its handling of an incident involving a female road bully victim.
WAO communications officer Tan Heang-Lee said it was appalling that the cop on duty at a police station had instructed the woman to “talk nicely” and even checked what she was wearing, as alleged.
“We call on Bukit Aman to investigate the case and ensure that anyone who seeks refuge at a police station receives the protection they are entitled to,” she said in a statement.
Tan was commenting about a woman, identified as Kogee Sinniah, who claimed in a Facebook video posting on Monday that a cop did not allow her to drive into the Alam Damai police station in Cheras when she wanted to lodge a report against a group of men in a BMW who were tailgating her and her son.
In a second video uploaded on Tuesday, the visibly upset woman claimed that a police officer told her the men followed her car because she had swerved into their lane.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said three suspects, all aged 18, were arrested in connection with the incident.
He said an investigation was being conducted to find out what really happened, adding that action would be taken against the police personnel if he was at fault.
