PETALING JAYA: The fake letter offering the “Darjah dan Bintang Kebesaran Negeri Selangor” honorific title was issued by a person posing as the Selangor Council of the Royal Court secretary, say police.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said initial investigations revealed that the suspect also claimed to represent the Royal Court in offering the Datukship.

“We received a police report on the forgery and fraud on Monday,” Comm Mazlan said yesterday.

“The Commercial Crime Investigation Department ( CCID) is investigating the matter under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by impersonation,” he said.

The offence carries up to seven years imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.

“We believe we will be able to solve the case soon,” Comm Mazlan said, advising the public to get verification from the authorities if there were doubts involving the “Darjah dan Bintang Kebesaran Negeri Selangor”.

It was reported that the Selangor Council of the Royal Court never issued any offer letter for the “Darjah dan Bintang Kebesaran Negeri Selangor” , which carries the title “Datuk”, to a person named Goh Boon Leong.

Selangor Council of the Royal Court secretary Hanafisah Jais said a police report had been lodged over the fake letter.
