Feeling the blues due to high cost of homes

- SINKING INTO DEPRESSION Cheras

I AM 26 years old. I graduated with a degree in Biotechnology and started my first job in the middle of last year.

Life as a working adult is hard. I live in Cheras and earn RM2,700 a month. My fiancé who is 31 years old has been working for five years now. He earns about RM3,800 a month.

Most of my money is spent on rent, transport and paying bills. I plan my expenses and try to save every extra sen that I have.

Recently, we started looking for a house to buy as our parents think it is time for us to settle down. Imagine our dismay when we learnt that the starting price for most properties in Klang Valley is way above our capacity.

I don’t get it. We have seen many newly developed properties that are taken up by realtors asking for sky-high prices. We have to face the fact that we are not able to afford to start our life together if we commit to purchasing a house.

New residential areas are being developed everywhere but if the price tag is not controlled, these would only end up gathering dust.

And for those who beg to differ, this is a break- down of my monthly expense:

> Rent for a partitioned room – RM500

> Car Loan – RM500

> Office parking – RM150

> Petrol and toll: RM700

> Utility bills – RM120

> Food and others – whatever is left.

I am not able to support my parents financially either. Thankfully, they’re still working.
