GEORGE TOWN: A full medical scholarship worth RM628,000 pledged by Penang Medical College (PMC) drew the attention of many interested students to the Star Education Fund booth.

Star Media Group Bhd Education Fund manager Susanna Kuan urged students interested in furthering their studies in medicine to apply.

“PMC is sponsoring the full medical scholarship and we are getting a lot of enquiries.

“The scholarship is for a five-year programme, where the students will spend two-and-a-half years in Ireland and the rest in Penang,” she said at the Star Education Fair 2018 in the Spice Arena yesterday.

The fund is among 50 scholarships worth almost RM1.6mil on offer by six institutions in the northern region.

Friends Shania Tan and R. Rovindran, both 18, were seen enquiring about the various scholarships with Kuan.

The school leavers from SMK Bukit Jambul said they were interested in applying for the scholarships.

“I am looking at courses such as architecture or veterinary.

“It will be a great financial help and will reduce my parents’ burden if I get the scholarship,” said Tan.

Rovindran is interested in software engineering courses.

Another booth that drew many visitors was The Star subscription booth, which has a lucky dip featuring vouchers and free passes for visitors.

Subscribers of The Star bundle or ePaper bundle packages stood to win various vouchers and free passes from different outlets.

The subscription event was sponsored by SP Setia and co-sponsored by Julie’s and Milo.

Other prize contributors were Eastin Hotel Penang and Hotel Penaga Penang.
