Reducing population to save the planet

-

HUMANS are the most contradictory species on earth. While we are the planet’s biggest problem makers, we are also the problem solvers.

If we compare humans with other living things on earth, we can see that we are indeed a very invasive species that can live almost everywhere and consume huge amounts of natural resources.

In doing so, we create problems, from poverty and hunger to environmental pollution and scarcity of natural resources.

We create economic conflicts, austerity and inequality between groups in our own species.

We wage war for raw materials while we crave peace and justice.

We subjugate our own kind through economic means and create inflation with high consumption.

We produce so much junk, creating environmental pollution that results in global warming and climate change in the process.

As a means to right our excesses, we now have to work towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations to sustain our planet.

The big question we should ask ourselves is: “Can we fix it with a simpler solution, without depending on big government plans? Isn’t it time to add another goal to the SDGs, and that is Responsible Human Population through a one family two children policy?”

Think about the benefits of this policy for our sustainable future.

1. We would not need to keep on building and buying big homes, which use up too much land.

2. We would not need to work hard just to make sure our family is not hungry.

3. Every family member would have more time for self-improvement.

4. Parents would have more time to pay attention to the progress of their two children in education and to teach them better.

5. Everyone would shop less and reduce consumption, and this would help us to preserve more of our natural resources.

6. Our health would be better and we can live happier lives as there would be fewer arguments among family members. Everyone can live in harmony and peace.

7. We would be able to ensure better equality in life and have more time to engage in community work to help the underprivileged and take better care of our environment.

8. Our world would become more peaceful with less noise.

9. Our society would not suffer mental stress due to poverty and inability to afford the things we desire.

10. We would be able to reduce our carbon footprint better and reduce environment pollution.

11. We would have more oxygen to breathe.

12. We would be able to plan better for our retirement.

13. It would be easier for society to cultivate kindness and compassion.

14. We would be able to conserve our natural environment and wildlife better.

15. We would not be stuck in massive traffic congestions to school and work.

16. Medical costs would be more affordable for everyone.

17. We could prevent outbreaks of diseases more easily.

18. Human crimes, war and political corruption could be reduced more effectively.

19. Nations would be more united with more equal opportunities for everyone, and the gap between rich and poor would be smaller.

20. The spirit of oneness in our world would be achieved faster.

21. Mindless competition and greed would be reduced and eventually our world would become more sustainable. DR JENN M. ZEN Raub
