Zairil hard at work despite uncertainty over his seat

-

GEORGE TOWN: Despite the uncertainty of whether he will defend his seat in the general election, Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari says his hands are full.

Three of the four state seats under his parliamentary seat are of concern to the Pakatan Harapan state government.

Kebun Bunga assemblyman Cheah Kah Peng of PKR is in the bad books of the state government, so is Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu who will quit DAP when his term ends.

That aside, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey of the DAP has announced plans to further her studies abroad.

That leaves just the Air Putih state seat, held by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, free of any “headache” to Zairil.

“It does appear that I am the busiest MP in Penang.

“I run two service centres, one in Pulau Tikus and another in Tanjung Bungah,” he said.

Zairil’s engagement to DAP Socialist Youth national executive councillor Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud last week had also raised eyebrows.

Zairil, who is tipped to contest the Tanjung Bungah state seat in the general election, said party leaders had asked him to “continue as usual”.

He said he was not concerned with any negative talk over his engagement with Dyana Sofya, adding that he would instead bank on his track record as an elected representative.

“I cannot stop people from sensationalising matters,” he added.
