We’re a family, Najib reminds Barisan parties
MELAKA: Barisan Nasional parties are a family and members should not betray each other in the general election, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Barisan chairman said it was imperative for all Barisan parties to work closely together.
“We shouldn’t shoot ourselves or kick down our own friends, but work together instead to ensure victory,” he said after launching the Bukit Katil Barisan election machinery in Ayer Keroh here.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Bukit Katil Umno division head Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam.
Najib said Barisan should work hard to retake Bukit Katil, which is one of two parliamentary seats held by the Opposition in Melaka.
“We want Bukit Katil back and we must help one another. If Umno wins, Barisan wins. If MCA wins, Barisan wins,” he added.
Najib said the Government would focus on the development of Bukit Katil if Barisan managed to wrest the seat from the Opposition.
Bukit Katil was won by PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin in GE13.
Earlier in Jasin, Najib said Sungai Rambai had the potential to become a new growth centre for Melaka.
He said Sungai Rambai had been adequately developed and had the capability to generate its own economic activities with small industries, commerce and tourism.
Najib pointed out that his late father and second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein had visited Sungai Rambai in 1972, when it was a remote area.
He said this during a ceremony to commemorate Sungai Rambai as a sub-district at the Rural Transforma- tion Centre (RTC).
Sungai Rambai, which encompasses an area of 9,214ha, is also known as Melaka’s Southern Gate. It was declared Melaka’s first sub-district on March 1 last year.
Najib said the development in the area was proof of Barisan’s success, adding that the Government’s priority was to benefit the people with its administration and management.
He said Urban Transformation Centres and RTCs had become onestop centres for the public to carry out transactions with various government agencies.
Earlier, Najib announced an allocation of RM290mil for four flood mitigation projects in Jasin, Merlimau, Sungai Duyung and Kampung Gajah, as well as a Tenaga Nasional Bhd lighting programme for 194 villages.
