Guan Eng trying to confuse public with photo, says Wee

KAJANG: Lim Guan Eng has totally missed the point when he revealed the photo of Barisan Nasional leaders with the wife of a Datuk Seri being investigated for graft, said MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Penang chief minister, he said, was trying to confuse the public.

“Guan Eng, you missed the point that people are trying to prove that you are lying through your teeth.

“When you said you don’t know the Datuk Seri, how is there a photo of you (with the Datuk Seri)?” he told reporters here yesterday.

Dr Wee was referring to the “wefie” of Lim and the Datuk Seri smiling widely in the back seat of a car that went viral recently.

Two photos of Lim and the Datuk Seri have emerged so far, the first showing both men wearing socks but no shoes standing on a carpeted floor.

On Monday, Lim had distributed photos of the Datuk Seri’s wife with some Barisan leaders and asked who had leaked the wefie when only the Datuk Seri had this in his handphone.

Dr Wee said the crux of the issue was the RM19mil allegedly received by the Datuk Seri to help close the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation files into Penang’s RM6.34bil mega project, including the undersea tunnel.

“Let him explain, but the main issue is whether he is telling the truth,” he said.

“The husband and wife should be separated (for this issue). Because of the husband, the wife cannot take photos with someone else?” he said.

MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said Lim was merely trying to deflect the unanswered questions over the project and giving excuses to avoid debating Dr Wee on it.

The main issue, he said, was not the photos but the links between the state government and the mega project’s special purpose vehicle with the Datuk Seri.

On another matter, Dr Wee slammed Lim for dancing along to an anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) song at an event attended by children.

“As a Chief Minister, he should have more wisdom than teachers and he should know what to do.

“Children learn from examples. They learn and imitate adults.

“The 400,000 teachers nationwide are professionals who would not try to spread political messages through songs. They know an adult’s influence on children is very big,” he said.
